[TS] I’m the Only One Without a Status Window 30

Episode 30

Things were calmer than I expected.

Lia had settled things with the Holy Kingdom, so I assumed there wouldn’t be any major issues for a while.

That’s what I thought.

That’s how it should have been… but why…?

“Why is it already the last day of finals?!”

I admit time flew by quickly with all the recent events.

But there’s no reason for it to move this fast!

I thought I was diligently attending classes, but exams are still dreadful.

“It’s vacation time.”

Celia, my friend, are you completely indifferent to finals?

Well, I guess exams don’t really matter to her since she’s already achieved recognition in her field and is pursuing her passion.

“Yeah, vacation time.”

This last exam marked the end of finals.

Which means vacation is just around the corner.

“…Summer vacation.”

“Hmm?”

“Let’s go somewhere.”

Ah, right.

I’ll be returning to the estate for vacation, but it wouldn’t hurt to have some fun beforehand.

Well, I’ll probably just laze around at the estate during the entire break, but…

Or maybe I should go on a training trip for my status window?!

“Alright, everyone, listen up!”

As I’m trying to calm my chaotic mind, the homeroom teacher enters and silences the excited chatter.

“Finals are over, which means the first semester has officially ended. We have the closing ceremony tomorrow, but before that, I’ll be holding individual consultations.”

“Aww…”

Groans erupt from every corner of the classroom.

Seriously, why the sudden consultations?

Isn’t it customary to dismiss students early on the last day of finals and have a quick closing ceremony?!

“We’ll be starting practical classes in the second semester, so I need to discuss your aptitudes with each of you. I apologize for the inconvenience, but please bear with me.”

Hmm, I heard the practical classes are divided into swordsmanship, magic, and other categories.

I’m going to suck at everything, so what should I choose?

Should I go with swordsmanship, since I’ve been training since childhood?

But I came to the academy for my status window.

It doesn’t really matter what I choose.

I’ll just be a useless extra until I get my status window.

It would be best to pick something that keeps me away from the others and out of the spotlight…

“I’ve posted the consultation schedule on the board, so please come in order. You’re free to leave after your consultation.”

Hoping for an early slot, I look at the board.

Hmm, my name’s somewhere down there…

No early dismissal for me today.

“Let’s go, Master.”

“Hmm? What about the consultation?”

“It’s tomorrow.”

I look at the board again and see that the consultations are divided between today and tomorrow.

It’s a considerate gesture, even though the academy doesn’t have that many students.

I nod and stand up.

“Ugh, I’m last.”

“Let us rest on the last day of exams…”

Despite being an academy for talented individuals, it still feels like a typical high school from my previous life.

“So, where do you want to go?”

I smile and turn to Celia.

“Let’s go to the dormitory and…”

“Ooh! Are we going somewhere fun?!”

Lia appears out of nowhere, slinging her arm around my shoulder.

Celia’s expression sours, but…

Well, it’s more fun to go with a group, right?

“It’s vacation time, so I was thinking we could go somewhere and have some fun!”

“Oooh, that sounds great! I’m in!”

“Master, where are we going?”

And then Dustin joins us.

“If you’re looking for a vacation spot, how about our villa, Yuri?”

And for some reason, Aroa, who’s started calling me “Yuri,” appears as well.

“Villa? You mean…”

“It’s located in a famous scenic spot within the Empire. This time of year is perfect! There’s a beautiful ocean view!”

The ocean…

Now that she mentions it, I haven’t seen the ocean since I reincarnated into this world.

Even in my previous life, I was born and raised in Seoul, so I didn’t have much connection to the sea.

“Do you guys like the ocean? It’s getting hot anyway.”

It would be nice to swim, eat delicious food, and relax.

And since Roa is the youngest daughter of the Dukedom…

Her villa must be owned by the Dukedom, right?

It’s probably comparable to our mansion, if not bigger.

They must have tons of delicious food!

“Observing seaweed wouldn’t be bad either.”

Celia, always thinking about research.

But her eyes are sparkling, so she seems to be on board.

“I’m happy to go anywhere Master goes.”

Well, I expected that from Dustin.

“The ocean? You mean that giant body of water?! I’m in! I’ve always wanted to see it! Wahaha!”

I knew Lia would be up for anything.

And Roa, who offered her villa…

“I was only planning to invite Yuri…”

She pouts and grumbles.

“Hmm, well, I wasn’t planning to go alone, so if you really don’t want the others to come, Roa, we can go somewhere else.”

“Eh, eh?! N-no! It’s not like I mind if they come…”

I chuckle at her flustered outburst.

This girl is so cat-like.

I reach out and pat her head, and she blushes and lowers her head.

“Anyway, now that that’s settled, let’s plan the trip. We need to inform the villa staff, so we can’t leave immediately.”

“We can leave right away! It’s always maintained!”

She nuzzles my hand and speaks in a coy tone.

“Oh, really? Then let’s leave right after the closing ceremony tomorrow.”

Being friends with nobles has its perks.

In my previous life, planning a trip required weeks, if not months, of preparation and reservations.

The life of the rich and powerful…

“So everyone get ready for the trip by tomorrow, okay?”

“I’ll ask my father to send a carriage by tomorrow.”

“Yeah, thanks, Roa.”

“Hmph… I’m not doing this because I want to please you, Yuri…!”

She’s so transparent.

Only children get excited and lose sleep over trips.

I’m old enough to be past that, and excitement is a foreign concept to me. I lie down in bed, ready for a peaceful night’s sleep, but…

For some reason, I end up tossing and turning all night.

“Master, wake up… Huh?”

I didn’t sleep, so there’s no need to wake up.

I fling open the door before Celia can start banging on it.

“Why are you up so early?”

Celia looks at me with a puzzled expression.

She seems well-rested, her face as smooth as porcelain.

“Well, it happens sometimes.”

“Master, you look pale. Did something happen last night?”

Dustin, always perceptive, notices my lack of sleep.

“Oh, Master Yuri! Did you stay up all night because you’re excited like me?!”

And here we have Lia, sporting dark circles under her eyes, greeting me enthusiastically.

Why do we even have to be similar in this aspect?

“Is that it, Master?”

“N-no, it’s not!”

Damn it, I stuttered.

Busted.

I instinctively avert my gaze.

Ahem! This is embarrassing!

At my age!

Well, I’m still young in this world, but!

To think I would lose sleep over a trip!

“Pfft, you’re so obvious.”

“Master said it’s not true! And even if it were, people can get excited about trips! Don’t make fun of him!”

Why are you overreacting, Dustin?

“That’s enough, Dustin.”

“Oh my, Yuri, did you have trouble sleeping? Then I’ll give you a cucumber mask on the carriage today.”

“Ah, you scared me. When did you get here?”

Did I ever tell her where my room is?

“I followed the President when he left in a hurry, and lo and behold! I discovered Yuri’s room! What luck!”

“Yes, yes, that’s great. Let’s head to class first.”

“Okay! Yuri!”

She still has her tsundere tendencies, but she’s more open about her affections now, clinging to my arm.

Even an idiot like me can tell what’s going on.

She definitely likes me.

Ahem, it’s nice to be liked by a pretty girl, but…

A girl and a girl…

“I don’t like her.”

“Agreed.”

Those two seem to be getting along better as well.

“Ooh, I want to hold Master’s arm too!”

Lia links her arm with my other arm, and I’m practically drowning in beau… Ahem!

But with them clinging to me like this, their soft… assets… keep brushing against my arm…

I have them too, but…

I didn’t have them before…

“Master, you’re completely spaced out.”

“Uh, huh?”

Why am I sitting in the classroom?

I was just walking with them, wasn’t I?

Didn’t we eat yet?

“You were completely silent during breakfast too. Are you sure you’re not sick?”

Ah, now that I think about it, my stomach is full. I must have eaten.

Ugh, I was too distracted by the feeling of their chests against my arm.

This is a secret I’ll take to my grave.

“It’s nothing. By the way, Celia, weren’t you first on the consultation list?”

“It’s a bother.”

“You still have to go! Get it over with!”

“…Fine.”

After Celia heads to the counseling room, I listen to the conversations around me.

“What are you doing during vacation?”

“I guess I’ll go back home.”

“We need to prepare for the second semester too.”

Their excited chatter fills the air.

“I’m staying in the dormitory to study.”

“Practical classes start in the second semester, so we need to stay here and improve our skills.”

Some are focused on their goals, while others are learning to take a break and enjoy themselves.

That’s what vacation is all about.

I slump onto my desk.

So much has happened.

I spent the entire semester being swept along by events, and I still haven’t gotten my status window, but it’s been fun.

I made a lot of new friends.

“Master, the teacher wants to see you in the counseling room.”

Celia, back from her consultation, informs me that it’s my turn.

“Oh, that was quick. I’ll be back.”

“Okay.”

I stretch and head towards the counseling room.

“Welcome.”

“Hello.”

We’ve seen each other all semester, but this is our first one-on-one meeting.

“Can I call you Yuri?”

“Sure, call me whatever you like.”

“Hmm, let’s see. Yuri, your grades are excellent, so I have high expectations for you, regardless of your path.”

Ah, my grades are good?

“And there have been a lot of rumors about you. I’m curious which ones are true.”

Well, there are a lot of rumors about me…

But most of them are false.

Or rather, they’re exaggerations of tiny grains of truth.

“You know that the second semester will focus on practical classes, right?”

“Ah, yes, I heard.”

“Swordsmanship, magic, alchemy, divine power, academics, research, and so on. You can choose your path initially.”

So we get to choose at first…

“Of course, we might reassign students based on their aptitude.”

Well, there’s no point in forcing someone who’s not suited for a particular path.

“And if your practical grades are too low, you’ll be held back.”

“Hmm, I see.”

“So, Yuri, what are you interested in?”

After much deliberation, I think swordsmanship suits me best.

I’d love to try something cool like magic, but it seems like I have no talent or magical power.

“I think I’ll go with swordsmanship.”

“I see. Then I’ll assign you to the swordsmanship class. Are you having any difficulties with academy life?”

It seems like the career consultation is over.

“Not really.”

“Hmm, I see. You have good relationships with your classmates and a friendly personality, so I don’t foresee any problems. Alright, good work. Enjoy your vacation, and I’ll see you in the second semester.”

“Yes, thank you.”

I bow and head back to the classroom.

The consultation, which I had been nervous about, turned out to be surprisingly uneventful.

Comment

  1. Anonym says:

I wonder if she’ll finally learn she’s actually super strong during swordsmanship classes, or she’ll spend the rest of her academy days thinking it’s something like beginner swordsmanship class and all her classmates are total newbies, regardless of how much they’ve trained.

  2. RiamuP says:

  3. Seanna says:

For all you know, Yuri might have made stats for everything be able to learn. and master anything. At. least that’s how the story seems to be going. She’s like better than than everyone else at everything.
