Chapter 22

Hearing Elder Feng’s incredulous voice, the Feng Family members finally snapped out of their daze at Qiao Shu’s stunning beauty.

Everyone looked at Qiao Shu with the same disbelief as Elder Feng.

None of them had imagined that the little granddaughter from the Qiao Family, who was betrothed to Feng Xiao through their childhood betrothal, could grow up to be so beautiful.

She had completely outshone all the girls in their entire Military District Compound!

What military white swan, what compound flower—those girls famous for their looks, they had seen plenty, but compared to the Qiao Family’s little granddaughter standing before them now, they were nothing!

“Grandpa, what are you saying? How could I have picked up the wrong person? She is Grandpa Qiao’s little granddaughter, Qiao Shu. Baocheng personally brought her back from the Qiao Family in Qiao Village. No mistake.”

Seeing the utter disbelief written all over Elder Feng’s face, He Yingzi said with a mix of amusement and exasperation.

“But…”

In Elder Feng’s mind, given Big Head Qiao’s looks—which were at best passable at most—how could he have such a granddaughter as beautiful as a fairy from heaven?

Elder Feng’s skeptical words hadn’t even finished when Qiao Shu nervously pursed her lips and said timidly.

“I am Grandpa’s granddaughter. Does Grandpa Feng not like me…”

As soon as Qiao Shu said this, paired with her tense, helpless, and pitifully beautiful face.

Everyone in the living room felt their hearts overflow with pity, and they all grew a bit dissatisfied with Elder Feng for stubbornly insisting she was the wrong person.

Even the youngest, He Anning and Jiang Lekang, couldn’t escape Qiao Shu’s charm. Children couldn’t control their emotions at all, magnifying their likes and dislikes completely.

“This is my little aunt! Great-Grandfather isn’t allowed to bully little aunt!”

“Great-Grandfather is mean! Not allowed to bully Kangkang’s little aunt!”

The two little ones made faces at Elder Feng, then whooshed to Qiao Shu’s side, shoving their own mother aside before sticking to her left and right, gripping her hands tightly with their small palms.

“Little aunt, are you a fairy from heaven? You’re so pretty!”

“Little aunt is pretty! Kangkang likes!”

Faced with the two little ones’ blatant affection, Qiao Shu truly felt a bit at a loss.

After all, she had no experience dealing with children.

But… these two didn’t seem like bratty kids, and they were both extremely cute, especially five-year-old Jiang Lekang, who was carved from jade, chubby and fair like a lucky doll from a New Year painting—a supremely adorable little milk dumpling.

Facing such high-charisma, well-behaved little ones, Qiao Shu instinctively showed a very warm and gentle shallow smile, her tone unconsciously softening as she said, “Thank you, you two are very pretty too.”

Qiao Shu’s smile dazed He Anning and her little brother Jiang Lekang even more; they could only stare at her and grin foolishly.

Seeing how gently and kindly Qiao Shu treated the two little ones, the Feng Family members recovered from her dazzling smile and felt even stronger fondness for this Qiao Shu they had just met.

They all tacitly thought that Feng Xiao had truly married a wonderful wife!

Though young, she was so kind and gentle with children—one look and you knew she wouldn’t mistreat them as a stepmother.

And… this wife was just too beautiful!!!

A wife this beautiful was impossible to find even with a lantern!!!

“Who would’ve thought our family’s brat would have such dog-shit luck, marrying a wife this beautiful.”

Feng Shengli couldn’t help voicing his thoughts, though quietly. With everyone’s attention on Qiao Shu, only He Hong beside him heard.

He Hong deeply agreed with her husband; their son, who had no intention of marrying, had hit the jackpot!

A wife dropping from the sky, beautiful as a heavenly fairy—this was enough to make anyone green with envy!

At this moment, He Hong first felt that her father-in-law, who had arranged the childhood betrothal, had truly done a good thing~!

“Dad, Qiao Shu might take after her grandma or her mom. Anyway, no way it’s the wrong person.”

He Hong walked to her father-in-law’s side and explained with a smile.

Hearing his daughter-in-law’s explanation, Elder Feng nodded.

He knew full well that the person he had personally sent to pick her up couldn’t have made a mistake.

But he was just shocked that Big Head Qiao had such an outrageously beautiful little granddaughter!

He even felt a twinge of jealousy—Big Head Qiao had such a cute and beautiful little granddaughter; it was enough to make one envious to death!

However…

Elder Feng’s eyes darted around. Seeing Qiao Shu’s innocent, obedient, and likable appearance, a brilliant smile spread across his face.

But now this little granddaughter was his grandson’s wife! She was one of the Feng Family!

“Good child, come, come to Grandpa.”

Faced with Elder Feng’s wrinkled, smiling face—like a big bad wolf tempting Little Red Riding Hood—Qiao Shu hadn’t reacted yet when the two little ones clutching her hands tensed up immediately.

“Fairy Little Aunt, don’t go over! Great-Grandfather seems off!”

“Great-Grandfather’s smile is so scary!”

Hearing his two great-grandsons, Elder Feng’s smile froze on his face, and he instinctively glared at the two little ones.

“Fairy Little Aunt, Great-Grandfather is so fierce! We won’t go!”

“Uh-huh, not going! Great-Grandfather is mean!”

Hearing his two great-grandsons, Elder Feng was so angry he nearly passed out.

“You two little brats!…”

“Grandpa, enough, let’s not mess around. It’s mealtime. Shushu said she was hungry on the way here. Let’s eat quickly, don’t starve our Shushu.”

He Yingzi interrupted Elder Feng and signaled for the family to start the meal.

As soon as He Yingzi said Qiao Shu was hungry, everyone in the Feng Family sprang into action in unison.

Except for He Anning and Jiang Lekang, who held Qiao Shu’s hands and led her to the dining room.

Every other Feng Family member turned into a server, swiftly setting a full table of dishes.

Seeing this table of sumptuous dishes, Qiao Shu’s eyes widened round, her beautiful eyes sparkling like stars.

Crab Roe Lion’s Head, Cherry Meat, Three-Set Duck, Squirrel Mandarin Fish, White-Robed Shrimp…

On the table were not only Su cuisine dishes but also Capital specialties like Capital Roast Duck, Beijing Sauce Shredded Pork, Braised Pork with Brown Sauce, Three-No-Stick…

Faced with this table of colorful, aromatic, and appetizing delicacies, Qiao Shu couldn’t help swallowing.

But she couldn’t be blamed!

Whether before or after time travel, she had never eaten such high-end food!

And just by the look, she knew it would taste amazing!

Seeing Qiao Shu like a little glutton cat with eyes shining at the food, the Feng Family members all smiled knowingly.

Even Elder Feng, who had wanted to chat with her, quietly waited until everyone was seated before announcing the meal.

Thus, the Feng Family’s dinner table welcomed its quietest meal ever.

No one spoke during the meal; everyone followed “no talking while eating” like a strictly disciplined family.

Of course, if their gazes weren’t fixed firmly on Qiao Shu, it would have been more convincing.

Wow! So delicious! Every dish was so good~!

Qiao Shu ate with sparkling eyes, her face full of enjoyment and satisfaction.

The tender and rich Three-Set Duck… the refreshing White-Robed Shrimp… the fresh and savory Crab Roe Lion’s Head…

And the most stunning of all, the Squirrel Mandarin Fish!

From the exquisite knife work to the sweet-and-sour sauce and the crispy-outside, tender-inside layered fish—delicious enough to swallow your tongue!

Wu Ma’s Su cuisine was indeed unparalleled! She had to learn from Wu Ma someday~!

In her happy eating zone, Qiao Shu ignored the Feng Family’s gazes and didn’t even check who was serving her food.

She just happily buried her head and ate.

At first, the Feng Family just thought the girl was not only beautiful but ate gracefully, a pleasing sight.

So they subconsciously didn’t want to disturb her and lovingly served her dishes.

But as they kept serving… they suddenly felt something was off.

Because…

Qiao Shu ate way too much!!!

The Feng Family watched in stunned silence as this delicate, slender girl—who seemed like she could be blown away by a breeze—devoured two bowls of rice in one go and showed no sign of stopping.

When she scooped a third bowl, the entire Feng Family petrified.

No way—a skinny little girl like this, where did she put all that food!

He Hong was the first to speak up; she truly worried her beautiful new daughter-in-law would overeat!

“Ahem, Shu, Shushu, are you not full yet? If it’s good, we can eat more tonight. You don’t want to stuff yourself…”

Only seventy percent full, Qiao Shu blinked innocently at her future mother-in-law’s words. Seeing everyone at the table looking at her, she swallowed her food, then sheepishly set down her bowl and chopsticks.

“I, my appetite is pretty big. Did I eat too much? Is there not enough left for you…”

Ever since her spiritual spring water mutated and taking it improved her body, her appetite had grown, and her rice intake was much larger than in her previous life.

But at the Qiao Family, their big-pot rice didn’t suit her taste, so she ate little there, mostly fruits from her Spirit Spring Space.

On the train, she had restrained herself for Yang Baocheng’s sake.

But now, facing this table of sumptuous, delicious food, she really couldn’t hold back~!

Seeing the girl’s apologetic look, the Feng Family forgot their concerns about her eating too much; pity flooded their hearts, and they all shook their heads.

“Silly child, there’s plenty of food at our house. Eat if you’re not full—we have enough!”

Elder Feng looked at Qiao Shu with utter affection, his voice especially kind.

Hearing Elder Feng, Qiao Shu—who had felt a bit embarrassed about her big appetite—immediately smiled again and happily resumed eating!

But she didn’t know that her hearty eating had led the Feng Family to imagine all sorts of unfounded hardships, making them pity and cherish her even more~!

Alas! What kind of tough life had this child lived at the Qiao Family? Always going hungry at home… such a poor child! From now on, they had to treat her extra well!

They had to love this poor little girl dearly! Give her the very best…
