Chapter 19

After finishing her psychological consultation, Jiang Ying completed the last task of the week.

It had been one week since she brought Doggy home.

The wonderful weekend spent with her dog was finally, officially beginning.

The moment she got home, Jiang Ying took a shower. After climbing onto the sofa, she thought for a moment. She had read before that a Beastman’s bathing frequency should be the same as a Human’s. She pushed away the dog who had just been about to snuggle up to her and urged him to go take a shower, too.

Su Heng already had one knee pressing onto the sofa cushion beside her leg. His smoky gray eyes locked onto her still-damp, moist lips. It was only when she pushed against his shoulder and swayed him that he snapped out of that restless, Rut-induced haze. His gaze swayed along with him, his line of sight drifting, brushing past the corner of her mouth before landing on the spot where a small dimple would appear when she smiled.

Right now, she was pretending to be unhappy as she ordered him to go shower quickly, and that spot was pressed flat by her downturned lips. The scent he had licked onto it not long ago was gone.

Taking advantage of her blindness, Su Heng gently held her wrist and moved it aside, swiftly leaning in to lick that spot again.

“…”

“I’m going to shower.”

He suppressed a certain desire that nearly overflowed from his throat and quickly stood up, distancing himself from her. She had just showered, and not only was his scent gone from her dimple, but so was the other man’s scent from her body. Yet his nose still felt a sour irritation. The need to cover her entire body with his own scent, the urge to devour her, still stubbornly took root in his mind. He was afraid that if he stayed there any longer, sooner or later he would end up biting somewhere else.

This sense of competition against another male had unexpectedly triggered his Rut symptoms again, the very ones that had just barely eased.

This was truly terrible.

Before he could touch her and beg for even a sliver of comfort, he had to take a cold shower to calm down.

By the time Su Heng finished his shower and returned to the living room, Jiang Ying was already holding the fried chicken delivery that had just arrived. She was nestled in the corner of the sofa they had bought together last time, happily drinking cola.

“So slow! My delivery already got here. Do dogs originally take this long to shower?” She patted the spot beside her. “Good Dog, come here.”

Su Heng obediently sat down next to her. Jiang Ying shifted, naturally adjusting to a more comfortable position, leaning diagonally against his side. Her dog was very warm. Even though he had just taken a cold shower, his whole body seemed to radiate heat. When she leaned against him, she didn’t even seem to need any heating equipment anymore.

Before bringing him home, she had constantly been troubled by the old facilities in her house. No matter what she did, she always had to bundle herself up tightly. But now, wearing only ordinary pajamas without temperature control, she felt the warmth from her own dog and found it incredibly blissful.

“It feels like I haven’t hung out in the living room for a long time,” she sighed. Ever since losing her sight, she hadn’t needed this space. And now, it had become the place where she spent time with her dog.

Su Heng secretly watched her from the corner of his eye. She was nestled in the sofa corner, framed by the armrest and the backrest. And she was leaning right against him, so if he wanted to do something, she would have nowhere to escape. The contact of their shoulders now gave him a little comfort, but it was far from enough. He tried his best to suppress the beastly genetic expression in his body, but he still failed to control it. That feigned sidelong glance turned into an outright, brazen stare.

She was completely blind, unable to see or even perceive his gaze. This undoubtedly became a bargaining chip for his unbridled actions.

Jiang Ying stuffed the bucket of fried chicken she was holding into his arms and proposed enthusiastically: “Let’s chat!”

Chat?

Before he could ask, she explained to herself: “Doctor Jin said that interacting more with Beastmen helps treat my cognitive disorder.”

Doctor Jin.

Doctor Jin again.

The moment that name left her mouth, it felt like someone was pricking needles into his heart. Su Heng felt a sour, stabbing pain, and a surge of irritation welled up in his chest. He took a deep breath. “Chat about what?”

She thought for a moment. “I don’t know. Doctor Jin said not to be too deliberate, just interact naturally.”

“…” Su Heng fell silent.

Finding a topic was indeed not easy. To avoid the awkwardness, Jiang Ying turned on the TV and randomly flipped to a channel playing an old movie. Having cats and dogs keep you company while watching TV or playing games, passing a leisurely stretch of time while talking to oneself—that was how many people envisioned a simple and heartwarming life. She had also long looked forward to that scene.

“After I became blind, I’ve never watched a movie again. But actually, if I really want to ‘watch,’ I can just use my ears to listen.” This became the perfect beginning for a casual topic. She leaned against Su Heng’s arm, biting her straw and mumbling vaguely. “After all, my work needs creative output, so I need input in my daily life too, you know. Movies can also be listened to like audiobooks, it’s just that ‘watching’ alone is a little boring. Now it’s different, I have Su Heng to keep me company.”

Su Heng looked down at her expression, not watching the movie. He actually had never seen a movie before. Before Jiang Ying brought him home, such a beautiful moment had never appeared in his life. To him, it hadn’t even counted as a fantasy or a luxury. But when she made this suggestion, he felt a faint stirring in his heart.

Or rather… what stirred his heart wasn’t the suggestion itself.

It was…

Su Heng stopped his thoughts from going where they shouldn’t. He lowered his head to look at the crown of her head, outlined in gold under the warm light, and said, “Okay.”

As the movie plot progressed, Jiang Ying listened with great interest, gradually forgetting the topic she had just started. This was a romance movie. The male and female leads were from feuding families, sworn enemies, yet they were drawn together by uncontrollable love and hate. It wasn’t until the plot reached the mid-to-late stages that Su Heng gradually sensed something was wrong.

The music suddenly stopped.

The shaky camera shots.

The deeply affectionate gazes.

The male and female leads tumbled onto the sofa and began to make out.

Su Heng held his breath, his eyes trembling. And in the next second, a pair of cool little hands covered his eyes.

Amid the slowly building sensual music, the girl’s voice bit into his ear like a panicked rabbit.

“No watching scenes unsuitable for a dog.”

Su Heng’s Adam’s apple bobbed hastily under her sprayed breath. “Mm… not watching.”

But with his vision taken away, his hearing and touch were amplified even more. Under the Beastman’s already acute senses, it slammed against his eardrums and nerves with extreme impact. The sounds of kissing, of breathing, the strange noises of the leather sofa emerging from the TV’s somewhat noisy background audio.

Unable to see the movie scenes, he instead couldn’t help but conjure another scene in his mind… a delusion of him and her.

This was a symptom brought on by the Rut, it wasn’t his original intention. Su Heng warned himself while breathing rapidly. Yet the skin of her palm was pressed right against his eyelids, rising and falling with each breath. Every single tremor challenged his willpower in this Rut state.

Finally, he couldn’t help but grab her wrist, nuzzling against her palm, letting out a little dog-like whimper.

Purring, purring. It was that sound again.

Jiang Ying froze for a moment, then hastily turned off the living room TV. “What’s wrong?” she asked.

Again, no response. He just kept rubbing against her hand, letting out soft whimpers. When she didn’t move, he would, seemingly unconsciously, hold her wrist and bump his head against the crook of her neck.

So strange. Did he want her to pet him?

Jiang Ying tentatively touched Su Heng’s face. His breath hitched, then became chaotic again after a few seconds.

So strange. She tried scratching his chin again. Cats seem to like being scratched under the chin the most. Su Heng has leopard genes, he’s also a feline, so he should like it too, right? Her fingers swept across his chin. Su Heng bit his lip and, as if unable to bear it, pressed his head downwards, trapping her hand between his chin and his throat.

Her knuckles touched his prominent Adam’s apple, and the purring sound grew louder. The sound came from his throat, making his Adam’s apple vibrate along with it. This turned into a sensation against her finger joints, leaving Jiang Ying even more confused.

He didn’t like being pet?

What about a kiss, then?

She pulled her fingers back from his neck, leaned in, and kissed his purring, vibrating Adam’s apple.

Su Heng jolted violently, unable to restrain himself from tilting his head back, pressing tightly against the sofa’s backrest. His breathing grew increasingly ragged, and even more urgent mating calls spilled from his throat. To Jiang Ying, who didn’t understand the Beastman language, he sounded very impatient.

Huh…? What’s wrong, why is he angry?

She was terribly confused and had no choice but to soothe him with “Good Dog, Obedient Dog,” opening her arms and saying “come here,” wanting to hug him.

Su Heng struggled to pull himself out of his dazed state. He looked down at her, his gaze darkening. She truly had no idea what she was actually inviting him to do…

He struggled again and again, but in the end, he couldn’t resist the desire to get closer to her. Su Heng stood up from the sofa, facing her, his shadow falling directly in front of her. Through his reddened vision, the girl lifted her face, unable to see him, her expression puzzled, guessing what he was about to do. He silently leaned towards her, pressing a single knee onto the sofa, positioning it right between her two knees.

Jiang Ying tilted her head in surprise, but didn’t resist. A dog pouncing on someone was the most normal thing in the world. She didn’t mind, and unless he got excessively excited, she didn’t intend to stop him for now.

After confirming she allowed him close, Su Heng leaned in even more, pressing his hands on the sofa backrest beside her face, enclosing her within the frame of his arms.

Then, he lowered his head and licked the side of her neck with sticky, lingering licks.

The dog’s tongue was hot. Jiang Ying found it so ticklish she wanted to push him away. But she didn’t want to let her dog down, so she had to endure that strange feeling, grabbing the clothes at his sides, trying to prevent the dog from getting too excited. Yet, she still subconsciously dodged to one side.

The dog pursued her, nuzzling her skin with the tip of his nose, burying himself in the crook of her neck to sniff meticulously.

This little animal-like behavior lasted too long. Jiang Ying gradually grew accustomed to the sensation, but still had no idea what he wanted to do or what he was trying to express by doing this.

Puzzled, she hugged the back of his neck, followed his hairline up to touch two soft, fluffy Beast Ears, and rubbed them while gripping the base.

“…!!”

Su Heng trembled and stopped moving. A moment later, the murky beastly desire in his eyes faded somewhat. The moment he came back to his senses, he awkwardly buried his face into the crook of her neck, laboriously regulating his breathing.

Huh? He stopped moving again? Jiang Ying felt a little worried. Was he unhappy again? Dogs were truly difficult to understand. What’s more, his genes contained both cat and dog, so she couldn’t distinguish the contradictory behaviors of the two animals from his actions. Now that he wasn’t fussing anymore, she was afraid he felt dejected. She quickly hugged him, coaxing and praising him as “Good Dog.”

She was holding him too tightly. His breath sprayed onto the crook of her neck, tangling with the scent of her pheromones. If he just moved back a little, he could bite the gland at the back of her neck. His Canine Teeth were already exposed, and that impulse seemed impossible to stop.

Using the last shred of his reason, Su Heng raised his head and his sharp Canine Teeth bit down on her earlobe instead.

It stung a bit, startling Jiang Ying into a yelp. She subconsciously wanted to push him away. But before she could lift her hands, the bite on her ear turned into light licks. A lick, then a suck. As if soothing her, or as if apologizing.

At the same time, the Beastman dog’s weight almost completely pressed onto her, so heavy that it made it hard for her to breathe. And from his throat, once again came that strange, purring sound she couldn’t understand.

So weird…

Jiang Ying thought she should probably make a post online to ask about this.
