After Being Entangled by Gloomy Male Ghosts 36

Chapter 36

She wasn’t using the speakerphone, but the static on the other end of the line was so piercing that with Song Yingxi’s keen hearing, he naturally caught a few of the words.

This human chosen by the Progenitor didn’t have much of a capacity for risk. However, her emotional state was remarkably stable. Her face seemed to say, “I knew it would turn out like this.”

Yan Zhu… Song Yingxi knew of this vampire who held the power of a Prince but was unwilling to develop his own faction. He appeared flippant and easygoing, but in reality, he existed outside the whole of vampire society, occasionally acting as a messenger between the Princes. From his appearance to his personality, he was an oddball among vampires.

…But he’s still too young.

If it were me, Song Yingxi thought, I would never let the target of the hunt out of my sight for so long.

As he was thinking, he met Fu Xia’s gaze.

She had no intention of explaining who Yan Zhu was. She simply asked, “Senior, do you have the doctor’s contact information?”

“I do. I’ll contact him. Are you asking about the situation outside?”

“Yes,” Fu Xia said earnestly. “I don’t dare to go out.”

She had just finished speaking when two loud bangs came from the sturdy-looking hospital room door. The sound was clearly not from normal medical staff. Fu Xia lunged for the lock, then deftly pushed several nearby cabinets in front of the door, barricading it. She didn’t know how long it would hold, but every second counted.

After doing all this, she turned and met Song Yingxi’s somewhat stunned gaze. He was propping himself up, still holding the phone to his ear.

He had put it on speaker, and the doctor’s voice on the other end was also laced with static.

“Ksshh… don’t leave the room for now. The patients on the sixth floor have all suddenly… krrzz… we’ve already called the special response team. Ow, don’t bite me.”

The half-breeds must have used a signal jammer. The scenic area on the mountainside was sparsely populated; the price of being far from the hustle and bustle was that calling for help was more difficult.

Fu Xia’s sharp assessment: “The patients in this hospital are definitely going to complain.”

Song Yingxi paused. “…Yes, but someone will handle it.”

Did the Progenitor choose her because of her slightly strange thought process?

Fu Xia had no idea what he was thinking. She looked forlornly at the phone, which could no longer make calls. Their plan had seemed so simple: solve the blood issue, get turned into a vampire, obtain the blood of the seven Princes, and finally become the Progenitor.

But putting it into practice was the difference between a novice and hell mode.

The sound of banging on the door continued intermittently. The force seemed considerable; the cabinets she had pushed against it were shaking. Perhaps realizing the door wouldn’t be easy to break down, the noise outside stopped.

“Senior, it’s not safe here. How are you feeling now?”

“Are you planning to run out?” Song Yingxi asked, perplexed. As far as he knew, she didn’t have much fighting ability. The only way out was the window, but the height of the eighth floor was enough to deter most people.

Fu Xia looked at his pale face. “…That was the idea.”

The door wasn’t safe, and in reality, the window wasn’t much safer. Yan Zhu could climb windows; there was no reason other vampires couldn’t. Wasn’t glass something they could easily break? If she could meet up with Yan Zhu, at least her safety would be guaranteed. But asking him to participate in a battle royale right after surgery seemed a bit much.

“For now, let’s find a suitable place to hide.”

She didn’t ask about his condition again and began to search the room.

Song Yingxi watched as she buzzed around like a busy bee, gathering things amidst the chaos outside. He saw her find a fire extinguisher first, then pull the flowers out of several vases, collecting the vases themselves.

Song Yingxi: “…”

The industrious Fu Xia continued to strive for survival.

The hospital room was large enough to have a small adjoining room for a companion, in addition to the medical facilities. She had originally planned to leave after a short while and hadn’t paid it much attention when she came in, but now was a good time to explore.

She opened the door to the small room. It had no windows and was furnished with a single bed. Aside from being a bit small, there were no major issues. The door looked sturdy. She decided to move him into this small room first. That way, they would have two layers of protection. Even if one door was broken down, there would still be another.

Still thinking of others. I really am a very caring person, Fu Xia thought.

But as the young master of the Song Corporation, and with his poor health, shouldn’t he have bodyguards with him at all times? The thought flickered through her mind and was gone.

She immediately put her plan into action.

Song Yingxi’s gaze followed her as she bustled around the room, finally coming to rest by the bed.

He heard her heavy voice. “This is hard to explain, but I want to move to the companion room. Are you willing to go?”

“…I’m fine with whatever.”

“Good.”

No sooner said than done. Fu Xia threw back the covers and bent down to help him up from the bed.

The banging on the door, which had stopped, started again.

Song Yingxi had a perfect build, but he was still too heavy for her. Most of his weight was on her, making him seem boneless and weak. But he had an expression of guilt for being such a burden, which made it hard to reproach him.

As they shuffled along, she glanced at him. His hospital gown had ridden up slightly, revealing pale skin and a thin layer of muscle. She silently looked away.

The banging continued, as if they knew someone was moving inside. Fu Xia ignored it, half-dragging him into the room.

They practically fell onto the bed. She quickly braced herself with her hands to avoid crashing into him again.

She was panting from the exertion. Her long hair fell over her shoulders, the ends brushing against the side of his face.

Song Yingxi raised a hand and lightly supported her back. His hand slid up her spine, as light as a feather, creating a subtle, tickling itch.

Fu Xia instinctively wanted to pull away. But her current position was a bit awkward. She wanted him to move his hand, but as she lifted her eyes, she met his gaze.

He had been watching her the whole time.

The thought instantly filled her mind. She felt dizzy, a strangely familiar feeling making it hard to concentrate. His entire face filled her vision.

Beautiful, stunning, dazzling.

“Your heart is beating so fast.”

He pushed himself up slightly. They held each other’s gaze for a full half-minute. “Why didn’t you leave when we were in the ICU?” he asked softly.

It was as if she had jumped right into a spider’s web.

The tip of his high-bridged nose was almost touching hers. She wasn’t sure if it was her imagination, but he seemed to brush his nose against hers very slightly.

Her dizziness intensified. She lowered her eyes, her hands on the bed losing their strength.

The hand on her back applied a little pressure, pulling her into his embrace.

He whispered, “Later, let me thank you properly.”
