Chapter 5
This little interlude, however, did remind Ji Yang of something.
The Ji family still had so much money. It would all be wasted when the apocalypse came. It would be better to contribute it to her for upgrading her space.
She had hoarded all the necessary supplies, but she hadn’t hoarded jade yet.
Ji Yang had a gut feeling that the space was still upgrading, but there just wasn’t enough jade. It hadn’t reached the point where a quantitative change would lead to a qualitative one.
Therefore, she used this as a pretext to call old man Ji.
“I just saw Ji Siyue. She said she was having dinner with a client. Dad, I don’t remember agreeing to let Ji Siyue join the company,” Ji Yang questioned, feigning anger.
Her expression, however, remained calm.
Fortunately, it wasn’t a face-to-face conversation. Otherwise, she would have found it really difficult to act out the part of a spoiled, jealous, and naive rich girl.
Ji Anfeng, of course, was no saint. He had just given her ten million last month out of guilt, and now Ji Yang was making an issue of it again. He roared, “Why do I have to report to you? I’m still the one in charge of this company!”
Ji Yang didn’t back down. “Yes, you’re in charge, so the agreement we signed before doesn’t count? Or should I just take over your shares right now?!”
“You’re rebelling!” Ji Anfeng grew even angrier.
But his voice lacked some of its previous force.
Seeing this, Ji Yang struck while the iron was hot. “It was my birthday on New Year’s Day, and you didn’t do anything for me. How dare you get angry at me?!”
Ji Anfeng was at a loss for words, stammering, “I was too busy those few days. You know how it is, we have to maintain client relationships during the New Year…”
“I’m short on money,” Ji Yang’s tone suddenly shifted, nearly causing Ji Anfeng to bite his tongue.
“How are you short on money again?!” Ji Anfeng couldn’t help but complain.
Their family was wealthy, but they weren’t among the top-tier tycoons who could casually throw around small fortunes. Their liquid assets were limited.
Ji Yang said huffily, “I was unhappy, so I went shopping. I bought a yacht, and that used up most of it. I wanted to buy a better one, but I didn’t have enough money. Now I can barely afford the maintenance fees! Give me another twenty million.”
“I really must owe you!” Ji Anfeng grumbled, but Ji Yang having demands was much easier to deal with than her having none. After his anger subsided, he still said, “This is the last time this year!”
“Fine,” Ji Yang immediately hung up, not wanting to say another word.
Leaving Ji Anfeng on the other end, staring at the abruptly disconnected call, his face darkened.
That little brat only cares about who’s feeding her.
Ji Yang couldn’t care less about his thoughts. As soon as the money arrived, she immediately called the several guides from Myanmar, saying that she wanted to get into carving recently and asked them to help her buy some jadeite.
This time, she didn’t want uncut raw stones, but rather jade that was already well-cut.
The quality also had to be as good as possible.
The guides all had the same attitude: “No problem! We’ll definitely pick the best quality for you!”
After hanging up, every single one of them was beaming.
The money of the rich second generation was so easy to earn.
To think she didn’t even have time to fly over and was selecting items remotely. The price difference in between was enough for them to make a killing!
—
The next day, Ji Yang had selected the jade via video call. She made four purchases of five to six million each, stopping only when she had spent most of the money on hand.
These jades would be sent over by air freight.
Ji Yang had thought it would take until the third day at the earliest, but to her surprise, a special delivery person brought them to her door at just after five in the afternoon that same day.
The efficiency was so high that she was impressed. The money was well spent.
Ji Yang placed this batch of jade into her space, expecting nothing to happen as before. But to her surprise, as soon as she put them in, the jades vanished, and in their place, a glimmer of light appeared next to her current storage space!
Ji Yang was stunned. It took her a good while to focus her attention and look over. She discovered that next to the void-like, static space, a piece of land about one hundred square meters had appeared!
Holy crap?!
It evolved into a living space?!
The one-hundred-square-meter plot of soil looked particularly tiny next to the ten-thousand-square-meter static space, yet it was impossible to ignore.
Ji Yang’s first thought was, Does this mean I can enter the space now?
She couldn’t physically enter the previous static space. To verify this, she had even used a phone with no internet connection to record a video. While her consciousness was in the space, her body was lying peacefully on the bed.
Now, she took out that offline phone again, started recording, and then closed her eyes to try.
There was a sharp pain in her head, followed by a sensation of weightlessness.
The next second, she landed with a plop on soft soil.
Ji Yang stood up, bewildered. Her bottom felt a little damp. She casually patted it, and her hand came away with semi-dry, dark brown soil. It looked very fertile, and she could even smell the earthy scent of the soil.
Such good soil was something that could no longer be found after the apocalypse.
If it could be used for planting, and if it were a bit larger, she could even raise livestock. That would mean a continuous source of resources, no matter how small!
Ji Yang tentatively walked to the edge. An invisible barrier blocked her way, forming an enclosed but breathable and bright space with the land.
Her consciousness couldn’t extend beyond it, but what she could see with her eyes looked like a void, somewhat like outer space, which was a bit terrifying.
Ji Yang rubbed her arms.
But even so, her eyes grew brighter and brighter as she looked. This newly appeared space was just too amazing!
Renewable resources were far more useful than a simple static space.
And she had seeds!
The only pity was that it was now only four days until the apocalypse, and the space couldn’t be expanded any further for the time being.
Tomorrow was New Year’s Eve, the day after was the Spring Festival, and the day after that, the snowstorm would arrive.
At this point in time, even the stone-gambling markets would be closed for the holidays.
And she didn’t dare leave home at this time. If the apocalypse arrived even a little bit early, it would be very difficult for her to get back.
But it was alright, there would be other opportunities.
Ji Yang calmed her excitement and exited the space. The next second, another wave of weightlessness hit her, and she landed on her bed.
It scared her so much that she immediately jumped up.
Her bedsheet!
Her duvet!
But she was a step too late. The bed was a mess, and her pajamas were also a mess.
I’m never entering the space with my body while on the bed again.
Ji Yang stopped the phone’s recording and reviewed the footage. Sure enough, after she entered the space, her figure had vanished from the bed.
She deleted the video, tossed the phone into her space, and began to frantically change her clothes, change the duvet cover, sweep the floor, and mop.
Only after she had tidied up the room again did she lie down comfortably on the bed. Her consciousness sank into the space, found the pasture seeds, took some, and scattered them on the soil.
The soil was soft, moist, and fertile, requiring no tilling at all.
She planted pasture grass with the thought that it would hold the soil and grow quickly. She could then raise some chickens, ducks, cattle, and sheep before the real cold set in.
If there was a pond, she could also raise some aquatic products.
Although she had bought a lot, how could frozen goods compare to fresh, live ones?
If she had known earlier that the space could develop into a living space, she definitely wouldn’t have wasted so much time hoarding supplies. She could have hoarded a little less of some things and used the spare time to buy raw stones for the space to devour, which would have been more cost-effective.
But there were no “if onlys.”
Ji Yang’s mentality was quite good. After a brief moment of disappointment, she adjusted. Compared to her previous life, she was already lucky enough. For the rest, she would take it one step at a time.
—
Five days until the apocalypse.
Ji Yang’s previously leisurely life now had a new mission.
The appearance of the living space made her eager to do something. She had scattered a lot of pasture seeds in the space, and after one night, they had all sprouted. Given a little time, they would surely grow rapidly!
She didn’t have to worry about plants; various seeds and seedlings were already prepared in her space, ready to be used at any time.
But animals were a different story.
She had to quickly buy some poultry and start raising them, lest they go extinct and become hard to find once the extreme cold arrived.
Just the thought of it made Ji Yang happy. So, she woke up extra early and searched for the most diverse breeding farm in Changnan City.
She didn’t plan to be greedy, just pick some that were easy to raise.
The internet was still powerful now. Ji Yang quickly found a farm that specialized in raising chickens, ducks, and geese. When she saw the destination, Ji Yang chuckled. It felt like seeing an old acquaintance.
In her previous life, she had visited this place many times while scavenging for supplies. The main reason was that when the heavy snow came, many animals froze to death, but many also escaped.
Many of the farmed livestock didn’t get far before freezing to death nearby. At that time, it required manual searching. If you were lucky enough to find a chicken, you could “celebrate the New Year.”
Of course, this was only in the early stages. Later, the area around the farm was completely scoured, to the point where people wished they could dig three feet into the frozen ground. Naturally, there was nothing left to find.
Ji Yang didn’t even need navigation and headed towards the farm from memory.
Hearing her purpose, the staff’s mouths twitched. “Actually, if you’re just raising a few, you don’t need to come here.”
Ji Yang: …
But the customer is always right. The staff member happened to be free, so he still took her to choose. “But our chickens, ducks, geese, quails, and button quails are all very popular! Especially the button quails. Don’t be fooled by their small size, they lay eggs very frequently, and they’re not noisy, so they’re suitable for raising in residential buildings without disturbing the neighbors. We don’t recommend ordinary chickens. Of course, if you’re going to slaughter them for meat, we can help with plucking…”
Ji Yang’s eyes lit up as she nodded. She liked this kind of well-behaved poultry. Hearing the latter part, she quickly shook her head.
No rush, no rush.
She wasn’t buying them to eat.
If it was inconvenient to raise them, she could just put them in the space in advance. She could use wood to partition off an area first, and then move them to the other side once the pasture grass had grown.
She had plenty of time to work on it slowly.
After looking around, Ji Yang quickly placed an order. “I’ll take ten of each, two males and eight females, according to this ratio.”
The staff member was surprised. “So many? Can you raise them where you live?”
She was a bit worried. What if the neighbors complained? Would they come looking for trouble?
Ji Yang said firmly, “I can!”
“Alright then.”
The staff member went to pack them up. They were all young animals, packed in cardboard boxes. After loading them into her car, he even made a sales pitch. “Our feed here is also very good. If the chicks eat it, I guarantee they’ll grow up fat and strong!”
Ji Yang: “I’ll buy it!”
With a wave of her hand, she bought a year’s supply.
The staff member, who had just been enthusiastically promoting his product, was now taken aback by this obvious nouveau riche behavior. “Isn’t that a bit too much?”
Ji Yang found it amusing, but she insisted, and the other party happily agreed.
After buying the poultry and feed, and arranging where to put the things later, Ji Yang couldn’t help but feel fortunate that although she had dismissed the master who helped her receive goods, the warehouse lease hadn’t expired yet!
Otherwise, she would be worrying about where to transport the feed without attracting attention.
She had never even considered buying feed before.
Ji Yang gave the key directly to the staff here, told them to deliver the goods and just leave the key in the corner of the door, and then drove off first.
She needed to test if these little creatures could survive normally in the space.
Of course, the first priority was to partition off a part of the space.
Besides chickens, ducks, and geese, Ji Yang also planned to buy some rabbits, pigs, cattle, and sheep. These animals were of different sizes, so they couldn’t be raised together.
Therefore, on her way to the next farm, Ji Yang pulled over and rested for half a day. During this time, her consciousness found some wood in the space, drove it into the soil, and divided the one hundred square meters in two.
One side was for growing pasture grass, and the other was for temporarily raising the poultry.
At the same time, the breeding area was divided in two again, one side larger than the other. Iron wire was used to attach wire mesh between the wooden posts to ensure that these little guys wouldn’t run around.
After everything was done, Ji Yang looked back at the chirping little creatures in the back seat. She picked them up one by one, and with a thought, the box appeared in the living space.
She focused her will, and the box tipped over.
“Cheep!” The little chicks immediately cried out in alarm.
Then came the quacking of ducklings and the honking of goslings.
But soon, the first one ran out.
Seeing the environment outside the box, it cautiously poked its head around for a few seconds, then happily flapped its little wings and went to peck at the ground.
Ji Yang: …My newly planted pasture grass!
