Chapter 34
“So, I was really saved?”
Jiang Tianyang climbed up from the hospital bed. Ren Yi immediately pressed him back down. “Don’t move yet. Let the doctors confirm you’re okay first.”
Jiang Tianyang scratched his head and gestured with his chin towards the repair instrument. “Captain, do you think they have any time to pay attention to me?”
The several experts were circling the machine, looking at it from all angles, the excitement in their eyes impossible to hide. Their entire focus was on this repair instrument.
Xia Anran: “…”
It does seem a bit much to just leave the newly conscious patient here.
Ren Yi smacked the back of his head. “You little rascal, what are you talking about!”
Xia Anran moved over and tugged on Professor Gong’s sleeve, whispering, “Professor, we still don’t know the patient’s condition.”
Professor Gong, who had been engrossed in studying the instrument’s control center, was startled back to reality. He quickly grabbed Professor Xu, who was excitedly preparing for further experiments with her colleagues.
“Old Xu, the patient has just recovered. Don’t you need to examine him again?”
Professor Xu paused, then said sheepishly, “To leave a patient behind like that… it seems our medical ethics are still lacking.”
Several medical staff members immediately surrounded Jiang Tianyang, connecting him to various monitoring devices. Professor Xu checked his eyes, listened to his heart. The monitoring equipment also showed that all his vitals were normal.
Ren Yi was extremely nervous on the side. Jiang Tianyang blinked his eyes but seemed to feel nothing. “Doctor, am I okay now? I feel great. My legs and feet don’t hurt, and I can see. Wow, my skin seems to have gotten fairer…”
“A miracle. This is simply a miracle.”
Even though they already knew about the machine’s miraculous healing abilities, the shock of seeing a person who had been mutilated beyond any hope of survival just moments ago now alive, well, and chattering away was immense.
Jiang Tianyang nodded vigorously. “Does this mean that after I die, I can be displayed in a museum? The first person in the world to regrow all four limbs!”
Xia Anran: …
She could tell now. This guy was a chatty, friendly extrovert! How could someone with this personality be an undercover agent?
Even the doctor couldn’t keep a straight face. He had never seen someone who had just escaped death already planning for their next demise. His hand trembled, and he nearly inserted the blood-drawing needle crookedly.
Ren Yi coughed as a reminder. “Tianyang, don’t disturb the doctor’s work.”
“Oh.”
After a series of comprehensive examinations, the doctor smiled and congratulated Jiang Tianyang. He had fully recovered, with no physical problems. However, since he was the first person to be healed by the repair instrument, he needed to be observed at the academy for a few more days to collect some data.
Jiang Tianyang readily agreed. He rested his hands behind his head and looked at Ren Yi with eager eyes. “Captain, can I get out of bed and walk around now?”
The equipment on him had already been removed. The medical staff had returned to the repair instrument, surrounding it and discussing it with great enthusiasm.
Ren Yi nodded. Like a little puppy receiving its master’s command, Jiang Tianyang shot up from the bed. The moment his feet touched the ground, he jumped several times, almost breaking into a set of military calisthenics on the spot.
Xia Anran, watching from the side, asked curiously, “Aren’t you even a little curious about how you were healed?” Shouldn’t a normal person be most concerned about that?
“Haha, just being able to live and stand again is enough for me. Why bother digging into the details?” Jiang Tianyang rolled up his sleeves and squeezed his arm, saying with a hint of regret, “My muscles are all gone. I need to start training again. This scrawny body doesn’t suit the valiant me!”
Xia Anran suddenly understood a little why he could be an undercover agent. This guy was just too sunny. No matter the situation, he could find joy and would never be defeated by any darkness.
“Alright, go and rest first,” Ren Yi said, pressing him back onto the bed. He prepared to push him back to the ward. It was clear the doctors here had no time for them.
Xia Anran said goodbye to them. As he was being pushed away, Jiang Tianyang, clinging to the side of the bed, suddenly realized he had never even met her. “I haven’t asked who this beautiful lady is.”
Smack!
Ren Yi slapped the back of his head. “You just got better. Can’t you behave for a bit?”
Xia Anran didn’t really know how to introduce herself either and gave an awkward smile. Ren Yi also paused. To be able to appear here tonight and even be treated with such courtesy by Professor Gong, she was most likely related to the machine that had healed Jiang Tianyang.
He extended his hand. “Although I don’t know the reason, I think we should thank this young lady.”
Xia Anran shook his hand without explaining much. Ren Yi gave her a nod and then pushed Jiang Tianyang out.
…
The events of the night had finally come to an end. Xia Anran yawned, preparing to say goodbye to Professor Gong and go rest. But then, the phone in her pocket suddenly vibrated.
She took it out and saw it was a notification from the livestream app.
[Contact with relevant personnel. Energy +1. 1/10 to unseal.]
Xia Anran frowned, wondering what the app was up to now. Relevant personnel? Was it referring to her handshake with Ren Yi just now? What was so special about him? Was he particularly handsome? Could this app be a sucker for good looks?
While she was puzzling over it, Professor Gong came over. Seeing her standing there in a daze, he patted her on the shoulder. “Little Xia, will you still be streaming tomorrow? It’s very late today. If you go back overnight and then stream early in the morning, you’ll have no time to rest. You probably won’t be in the best condition.”
Xia Anran was also a bit hesitant. If she streamed as usual tomorrow morning, it would indeed be a bit of a rush. Maybe she should skip a day?
…
Professor Gong arranged for a car to take Xia Anran back to the villa in the capital. Ji Minghui was waiting in the courtyard; he had come with her today.
“How was it? Is everything alright?”
After getting an affirmative answer, Ji Minghui breathed a sigh of relief and looked at his watch. “Shall we head back to Yanshan Village now?”
Xia Anran sat down on the swing in the yard and swayed a couple of times. “We probably can’t leave tonight. Something new came up with the app, and I need to report it to the Chief tomorrow. Besides, it’s too late. If we fly back overnight, we won’t be in good shape.”
Ji Minghui thought for a moment and agreed. It was indeed too late. Making her work around the clock like this was too hard on her. “So… we’re just not streaming?”
She had already promised the interstellar audience that she would stream on time every day. Suddenly not streaming would surely disappoint them.
Xia Anran shook her phone, an expression on her face that said, I have a clever plan.
…
On the United Star System’s StarNet, for the first time, there was activity on Xia Anran’s channel outside of the broadcast time. A message was posted on her status update.
[Host Anran]: A notice of leave: The host has an urgent matter today and cannot stream. See you all tomorrow! [Crying]
Seeing this message, Director Li’s brow furrowed into a deep line. He slapped his thigh in frustration. “Host Anran isn’t streaming today! What are we going to do?”
His assistant tried to console him. “Director, don’t worry too much. Researcher Ye’s condition is very stable. Professor Zhang said this is just a necessary slumber for awakening psychic power, as the body adapts to it.”
Director Li sighed and, with his hands behind his back, looked at the sleeping Ye Yuxing in the observation room, his heart filled with anxiety. He had always been grooming Ye Yuxing as his successor. Now that such an inexplicable thing had happened to him, he was worried sick. He had been hoping to ask about it during Xia Anran’s stream, but she had posted a leave of absence. His mood instantly soured.
“Beep—Activated.”
The door to the observation room opened, and Qin Feng came out in a protective suit. In the rest area, he took off his hood, ran a hand through his hair, revealing his sharp eyebrows and eyes. “I’m telling you, Director Li, this observation room is too stuffy. Can’t you guys upgrade it a little?”
Director Li rushed over, in no mood for jokes. “How is he? Is he okay?”
Qin Feng smiled. “Don’t worry. It’s a normal psychic awakening process. I’ve already scanned his body with my psychic power, and everything is normal. And there’s good news. Yuxing has good potential. When he wakes up, he should have a decent psychic power level.”
Director Li didn’t care at all about how strong a psychic Ye Yuxing would become. He continued to ask anxiously, “Yuxing wasn’t stimulated by Wasteland Energy. The cause of his awakening is still unknown. Are there really no side effects?”
“I already told you not to worry,” Qin Feng said, clapping him on the shoulder as they walked out of the observation room. “Although we don’t know what caused his awakening, his body is completely fine.”
“In that case, it’s highly likely it’s because of Anran’s livestream,” Director Li said thoughtfully. But they still didn’t know which element in the stream had caused it. And so far, no other person in the United Star System had awakened their psychic power during the broadcast like Ye Yuxing.
“Hmm… this matter is indeed very interesting.”
Qin Feng leaned against the corridor wall, playing with a Yuan Pouch in his hand. The light cast a shadow over his face. He turned and, with a smile, tossed the Yuan Pouch to Director Li. “Inside are the blood samples of all the members of the 115th Squadron, taken before and after watching the livestream. I’ll have to trouble the Academy of Sciences to analyze them.”
After years of research, they had discovered that changes in psychic power were largely reflected in various blood indicators.
Director Li took it, his expression serious. He nodded and then hurried off towards the lab. If it was because of the livestream, then the psychic power of the 115th Squadron members must also have been affected.
Qin Feng watched him leave and then straightened up. He also had to go to the consulate to report Ye Yuxing’s situation to the consuls.
“I really don’t know if this is a good thing or a bad thing…”
…
In the Beastman Royal Palace
Jeqi was, for a rare change, seriously discussing matters with several elders. Ruoya, too lazy to attend the meeting, was hiding in a room behind the council hall, playing a game.
Xuan Mo also disliked dealing with these old fossils and was sitting next to Ruoya, watching her play with great interest. “Your Highness, what are you playing?”
Ruoya glanced at him and said lazily, “A little game on the StarNet about Host Anran. I heard the publisher was arrested by the United Star System and the game was locked, so it can’t be updated anymore.”
Xuan Mo: …So Her Highness is playing a pirated version now?! The United Star System is so troublesome! They’re even affecting Her Highness’s gaming!
After playing for a while and finishing the current content, Ruoya tossed it aside and glanced into the council hall. “Are they still talking about how to contact Earth?”
At the mention of this, Xuan Mo’s expression also turned serious. “The Research Institute has now confirmed that the items from Earth have an enhancing effect on our Horn Power. But unlike humans, the fruits and green plants have no effect on us.”
“And the animals on Earth are very likely our primitive beasts. The people at the Research Institute say that if we can bring the primitive beasts to the interstellar era, our humanization problem can be greatly curbed.”
At the mention of the animals on Earth, Ruoya also smiled, resting her chin on her hands. “Primitive beasts… so charming.”
“But Host Anran currently only has close contact with the United Star System and has even accepted their gifts.”
The moment she finished speaking, a loud shout came from the council hall. “So, the biggest goal for our Beastman race right now is to do everything in our power to express our sincerity to Host Anran! And at the same time, to establish good diplomatic relations with the United Star System!”
“Your Majesty, why have you fallen asleep again?!”
Ruoya: “…” Her unfortunate brother. She had to go rescue him before the old men in the council ganged up on him.
…
While the United Star System and the Beastman race were both busy, the Interstellar Empire was in the midst of an enthusiastic atmosphere of nationwide learning of the Hua language.
“The United Star System’s language is so hard to learn!” As an ordinary citizen of the Interstellar Empire, Huayana had received a United Star System language learning gift pack from the government on her photon-computer early in the morning.
“Uh, initials, finals… this Pinyin is so strange. Does the United Star System’s language have two different scripts?” Her friend was studying with her, looking at the completely different Pinyin letters and United Star System characters with deep suspicion.
After racking their brains, the two finally figured out Pinyin and nearly hugged each other in tears of joy.
“Let’s go, let’s go! A notice just came out that there will be a nationwide test every week. The prize for first place is fruit!”
After encouraging each other for a bit, they buried their heads in their studies for another hour before they couldn’t take it anymore. They decided to go out for some shopping to reward themselves for their hard work.
The largest commercial center in the Interstellar Empire was called “Liefei.” It contained almost every product available on the market, and its growth was becoming more and more rapid. It had already become the largest commercial alliance in the Empire.
“Wow! The clothes Anran wore in yesterday’s stream are already for sale!”
“And there are some that combine elements with our Empire’s fashion!”
“My favorite butterfly clasp is finally for sale!”
The two plunged into a shop. The service was automated. The products were all enclosed in energy spheres. After scanning and paying with a photon-computer, they could get the item. The Interstellar Empire was the most commercially prosperous in the galaxy. Since Xia Anran’s livestream had appeared, the “ancient Earth style” had quickly become a sensation. Whether it was replicas of her clothes and jewelry or a fusion of Earth’s elements with the Empire’s style, the development was very mature. Many people from the United Star System and the Beastman race would even cross-border shop from the Empire.
At this moment, His Majesty the Emperor of the Interstellar Empire was also humming a little tune in a good mood, checking today’s earnings from Liefei. Hmm, not bad, another new high! As expected, Host Anran was his lucky goddess. Ever since her stream had appeared, he had been making a fortune.
But what could have happened to make her not stream today?
