[TS] I’m the Only One Without a Status Window 8

Episode 8

“What the…? Why are they acting like that?”

I stare with a puzzled expression at the bandits who suddenly run away as if they’ve seen a ghost.

“What’s going on?! Yuri, are you alright?!”

And then my father appears, suddenly shielding me and covering my eyes.

“What, what… No, wait. That dagger, is it…?”

“Yes… It’s mine.”

I guess he’s trying to protect me from seeing the bloody scene…

But the one who caused this situation is actually me.

“Why is it there…?”

“It slipped.”

Unlike my flustered father, I answer calmly.

Why?

Because it’s the truth, the fact.

“…But even so, how could it…”

“It really slipped. From my hand.”

“…Hmm, alright. It slipped.”

He seems flustered, but I’m only speaking the truth.

The dagger that slipped from my hand just happened to dive onto that unlucky man’s head.

“But where are the others?”

“Uh, they ran away?”

I don’t know why they ran away, but it’s a win for us.

Maybe they saw my father running towards us and got scared.

Aren’t bandits supposed to be stealthy…?

“Anyway, let’s get back to the carriage quickly. The problem with the wheel has been fixed.”

Well, this and that aside, my father was also quite skilled in his younger days.

I guess they recognized that and ran away. I nod and head back to the carriage.

“My dear, let’s go back too.”

I help my mother, who was quietly observing the situation from behind, get on the carriage.

“Ah, I have to get that dagger.”

Come to think of it, I forgot to retrieve it.

If I had a status window, I could use a skill to retrieve the dagger, right?

As expected, without a status window, I’m just a speck of dust who has to rely on luck.

“I’ll have someone retrieve it.”

I don’t feel like getting off the carriage again to get it, so I obediently nod.

It might have been a bit boring, but I didn’t wish for something this big to happen.

If they were going to give me a status window, they should have done it before putting me in this kind of situation.

I don’t understand the status window administrator at all.

Not giving a status window to such a suitable candidate.

“Honestly…”

“Huh? What’s wrong?”

“Ah, it’s nothing.”

After that, we arrive at the mansion in the capital without any further incidents.

“I’m tired.”

My mother, who has a weak constitution, seems quite exhausted. She gives me a brief greeting and heads straight to her room.

“Yuri, you should go rest too. The butler will show you to your room.”

“Can I go sightseeing in the city after taking a nap?”

“Of course, if you can wake up.”

I feel happy after getting his permission.

I did get a glimpse of the city from the carriage window earlier, but it was quite quiet, probably because it was dawn.

Of course, there were many large buildings and some carriages moving around.

“There’s a party in the evening, so make sure you come back on time.”

“Yes, don’t worry.”

After my father also heads to his room, I follow the butler to my room.

“This is the room you’ll be using, young lady. I tried my best to decorate it, but I’m worried if you’ll like it.”

He’s been smiling brightly the whole time, which makes him quite likable.

He’s a handsome man, a bit younger than the butler at our main residence.

The overall atmosphere here feels younger than our main residence, so I’m excited to see the room.

And the room, as the door opens-

“Wow…”

It’s completely covered in pink and princess-themed decorations. It’s such an overwhelming interior that I can’t help but frown.

How am I supposed to live in a place like this?!

“Do you like it?”

But this guy has no tact and asks if I like it.

Can’t he see my frown?!

“Honestly, I feel like throwing up.”

“Are you feeling unwell from the long carriage ride?”

No, it’s not that.

I feel like throwing up because the room is too pink.

“…I’ll just rest for a bit.”

Peace finally arrives after I kick the fussing butler out of the room.

I poke the bed that looks like it would stain anything pink just by touching it.

“Good thing it doesn’t seem to transfer color.”

It’s ridiculous, but it felt like it would.

Anyway, I finally sit down on the bed, and the soft texture that comfortably envelops my bottom puts me in a good mood.

“Young lady, the bath is ready. Would you like to wash up?”

Ah, you scared me.

How long has she been there?

“Uh, since when have you been… here?”

“I was cleaning the room before you came in with the butler. And please, speak comfortably.”

I calm my surprised heart as I look at the pretty lady who greets me with a shy voice.

She has light orange hair and charming freckles.

Wow, she’s attractive.

It’s always nice to see a beautiful woman.

Her soft-looking skin, her shapely figure.

And her charming, pretty face.

“Would you like to take a bath first?”

“Yes, I’m a little sweaty and sticky.”

But if I’m going to take a bath, why did I bother putting on all that makeup?

“I’ll prepare comfortable clothes for you.”

Well, whatever.

It’s all good.

I’ll probably have to go through another round of chaos for the party tonight, but…

For now, I just want to relax.

“I’ll help you with your bath.”

I nod silently and enter the bathroom.

I was surprised and refused at first, but having someone help me with my bath is quite nice.

I always feel strange looking at this unfamiliar body, but having someone wash me instead leaves no room for such thoughts.

The bathroom in the room is well-equipped, reminiscent of a luxurious, expensive hot spring.

The large golden bathtub is filled with rose petals, and the air is filled with a pleasant fragrance.

I take off my uncomfortable clothes and step into the bath, feeling like I’m in heaven.

“Please let me know when your body is warm. I’ll give you a massage.”

The maid speaks in a polite tone.

I used to be like friends or sisters with Lily, so we would bathe together while she helped me wash up.

Of course, it was a bit torturous because my eyes would always wander to certain places…

“Uh, but what’s your name?”

“Ah, I’m Ella de Sarah. Please call me whatever you’re comfortable with.”

So she was a young lady from the Sarah family.

“What’s the capital like?”

“Well, the Elliot mansion is always quiet. The Count and Countess only visit the capital twice a year at most.”

My question was actually about the capital itself, not the mansion, but I decide to listen anyway.

Listening to Ella’s quiet and gentle voice makes me feel like I’m listening to ASMR.

“The butler always manages the budget allocated to the capital mansion on behalf of the Countess. I was originally one of the Countess’s maids, but I was transferred here when you were born.”

“Hmm…”

I thought my parents wouldn’t send just any maid, but they actually sent one who used to serve my mother.

Come to think of it, Lily was also my mother’s personal maid before.

“I always dreamed of the day I would meet you. It’s an honor to finally meet you.”

“Oh, it’s not that big of a deal.”

After the blissful bath, I put on comfortable pajamas and lie down on the bed, falling asleep instantly.

It was a strangely tiring day.

I don’t know how long I slept.

I slept really well.

Too well, to the point where it became a problem.

I clearly fell asleep when it was getting dark, but when I woke up, the sky was getting dark again.

“Why didn’t anyone wake me up?!”

I was planning to go sightseeing in the city during the day, but no one woke me up, and now the day is wasted.

“You were sleeping so soundly that we couldn’t wake you up. I apologize, young lady.”

When Ella apologizes softly in her quiet voice, I honestly have nothing to say.

It’s my fault for oversleeping.

I didn’t ask anyone to wake me up at a specific time.

“No, it’s my fault.”

I’m a little disappointed that I missed seeing the lively streets, but this is not the time for that.

I have to endure another round of that hellish preparation process to attend the debutante ball being held tonight.

“Would you like me to help you get ready for the party?”

“Sigh, yes… Please try to make it as quick as possible.”

“I’ll do my best.”

There are about four hours left until the party.

If I spend three hours getting ready like before, I’ll definitely be late.

Honestly, I don’t care if I’m late or not.

But wouldn’t it be better to go to the party than to sit blankly while getting ready?

“You’re ready, young lady. I tried my best to make it quick…”

I check the clock and see that about two hours have passed.

“Ah, good work.”

Thinking back to Ella and the many other maids bustling around, this must have been the best they could do.

“Countess, you’re here.”

My mother, who has just finished getting ready, arrives. Unlike her usual appearance, she’s dressed very lavishly today.

“You’re very glamorous today.”

“Of course. It’s a party where you might find your husband.”

Ugh, that “husband” thing again.

“Our daughter is so beautiful today. Especially these cheeks, they’re so lovely.”

She gently touches my cheeks, which are adorned with rosy blush.

“You’re so lovely, but your expression isn’t. You just woke up, didn’t you? Why do you look so tired?”

How can I not be tired after sitting in front of the vanity for two hours right after waking up?

“I’m just a little… exhausted.”

“You can’t be exhausted already. The party is just beginning.”

The end of the tedious preparation.

I just hope something interesting happens at the party.

Like, some kind of trouble occurs, everyone panics, and then bam! my status window awakens.

“Now, let’s go, our daughter.”

It takes another hour to get to the palace by carriage.

I confirm that the party hasn’t started yet and step into the ballroom.

Dazzling decorations and countless people.

I see young ladies and gentlemen greeting each other, seemingly already acquainted.

“Now, our daughter, fighting!”

They say a lion throws its cub off a cliff or something like that, right?

That’s exactly what my mother is doing.

She throws me into this unfamiliar place where I don’t know anyone and then goes off to chat with her acquaintances.

“Hello, young lady.”

Of course, I’m not worried.

People naturally flock to those with outstanding looks.

As if to prove that, a girl approaches me and shyly greets me.

“I’m Sophie de Garcia from the Garcia Dukedom.”

Garcia Dukedom.

I recall the Garcia Dukedom, whose territory is located near the capital.

My father said he’s on good terms with them.

I look at the girl who greeted me. She has light pink hair braided and tied up, and her sharp, cat-like eyes are impressive.

Her white dress, which seems to have been meticulously chosen, makes her stand out even more.

“Hello, I’m Yurius de Elliot from the Elliot County.”

Since my father is on good terms with them, I don’t want to be rude, so I use the awkward greeting I’ve been practicing.

And with that, the surroundings suddenly become restless.

“The young lady from the Elliot County?”

“Oh my, is that her?”

“She’s more lovely than I expected.”

What, what’s going on?

It seems like everyone knows about my rumors except me.

Ah, is it a rule that everyone knows about rumors except the person they’re about?

Anyway, I look at Sophie, whom I just greeted, with curious eyes.

“Ah, um, there are rumors about you circulating throughout the capital.”

I approach Sophie, who speaks cautiously, and listen closely.

Gossip is always the most entertaining.

“The rumors say that Lady Elliot possesses incredible strength and can defeat monsters with a single blow.”

Of course, rumors about me are never fun.

I wonder why those old rumors are still circulating.

It’s been over three years, hasn’t it?

After that, I greet many other people and engage in meaningless conversations, which quickly exhausts me.

I’m tired of dancing every time the music plays.

And the gazes of the men who keep glancing at me are burdensome and unpleasant.

“I’m tired.”

I look around for a place to hide from the people who keep trying to talk to me.

Thud-

“Ouch.”

As I’m walking aimlessly, I hear a voice as if someone has tripped over something. I look down in surprise.

“Ah, I’m sorry! I didn’t know anyone was there!”

“…It’s okay, you didn’t kick the flowerpot.”

I tilt my head, seeing a very small girl staring at the flowerpot with sleepy eyes.

“What are you doing here?”

“This.”

“Huh?”

“Observing the flowerpot.”

I barely catch her quiet voice, which is almost drowned out by the music.

“Hmm, is it fun?”

She seems like an eccentric girl, but I’m more drawn to her than anyone else here.

She’s much smaller than me, and her striking purple hair stands out.

Her half-closed, sleepy eyes and her small mouth that keeps muttering something.

Maybe it’s because of her small build, but she gives off a childlike impression.

Everyone here is young, but she looks the youngest… baby-faced…

“It’s fun. Plants always tell the truth.”

As I’m lost in my thoughts, her words, which sound a bit strange, catch my attention.

Plants talk…?

“Ah, here we go again. What is she talking about?”

And then, I’m completely shocked as she starts poking at the air.

Hey, you too…?

Makes sense. For her to earn the title of Great Sage, there had to be more than one case.
Not to add that the title gives off the impression that there are multiple people who can use a status window.
